Abstract

The article analyzes some fundamental stages in the battle for the rights of African-American men and women in the United States of America, highlighting the difficulties they faced, especially as a consequence of the prejudices transversally disseminated in society. The article focuses on the originality of black feminism positions, showing how much its battles have been disparaged and misunderstood. Based on the text by Angela Davis, Women, Race & Class, the article reflects on the universalistic claims of hegemonic feminism, and proposes the question; is it possible to carry out a struggle in the name and on behalf of all women, creating a bridge between the different social classes, or, even more, assuming that women are a single class?
